Growing up in Southern California, she used to write stories for her elementary school friends—stories about horses, the beach life, love and romance—so many stories that rather than listen to instruction, her friends were reading her stories instead. So much so, that at the end of the school year, her sixth grade instructor handed back her stories to her—a growing stack that he had kept all year in his cabinet.
